New procedure available for British Nationals wishing to marry in Italy.

June 20, 2017

Paperwork procedures for getting civily married are in constant changing and they are different from the different countries due Italy's  have special specifications for almost each country. Is very easy to get lost, confused or being working with expired information... at the British Embassy , they are constantly  working looking that British Nationals enjoy happy and problem-free weddings in Italy.

Here is  a new procedure that the British Embassy in Rome shared to Italia's main wedding planners that deal with paperwork process, I'm happy to belong to this list!

This will be available to British Nationals wishing to marry in Italy which will be available from the 1st May.

For those British Nationals resident in Italy or in Italy for at least 3 clear days before signing their Notice Of Marriage, the customer now has the option of using a local notary in Italy instead of coming to the Embassy.

The couple (in case that both are British citizens) can sign their Notice of Marriage and their affirmation in front of a local notary in Italy rather than in front of a consular officer.

The couple can then send their signed documents by post and they will  publish their Notice of Marriage for 7 clear days before issuing their Nulla Osta in Italian. It means that the couple is not required to visit the British Embassy in Rome at all.

Please note that this will NOT affect those British Nationals resident in the UK. British Embassy in Rome is not involved in their wedding documentation at all and this will not change. Please also note that for those British Nationals resident in Italy, they must visit a local Italian notary. Lastly, please note that this option is also available for same-sex registrations.

The new procedure came into force on Monday 1st May when Embassy's website is updated (https://www.gov.uk/marriage-abroad). Everything that you as a couple or individually need to know will be available online.

Have a happy  civil
